Quickie – The 5th week

May 19, 2009

Well, within a blink of an eye, the June holiday’s approaching. Normally, that’d be a reason to rejoice, but apparently, that’s also when mid-year assignments are due. All in one shot.

*Sigh*

If I do have the chance, I’ll try to get some of those works up here for a quick look-see.

Well, since you’re here already, why not a quick song?

It’s all in my head

May 16, 2009

You know when you’ve gone through alot of things, and they slowly start to loop or become repetitive in your mind? A whole load of that’s been going on.

Yea, except this time, it’s a song.

Urghgawd IT’SLOOPINGINMYHEAD! It sounds ReAAL G000d but it just keeps LOOO000OOPING!

Seriously, it’s sorta frying my mind, yet I want more of it.

w(*A* w)

It all started out with a simple homework. I was doing my web publishing homework, finding it all boring and stuff without music and all, since a certain someone was sleeping in the room right beside where I was working, so I couldn’t blast out music directly. So earphones it was. And you know when you leave something alone for quite some time, you’re tempted to try it again, ya?

Caramelldansen.

At first, it was the short version on youtube, but later I was like:

“Maybe one more time.”

And then:

“There should be a full version somewhere…”

And after about 6 reruns through the song…

“Mai GAWD I NEED MOAR!”

And it’s so bad that dance is burned into my eyes. No, srly. It’s like some sort of screen saver. Whenever I daydream now, blam. It’s right there.

SP “Japan Craze”…

May 1, 2009

Was kind of a letdown.

Sorry there aren’t any pictures available now, my camera phone’s going through one of it’s rebellious periods. Anyway, on the 29th of April, which happened to be a wednesday, the Singapore Polytechnic Foreign Exchange Club (I think) organised a ‘Cosplay event’, lasting from 11am to 4pm. Well, 3pm, to be exact. They were cleaning up during that 1 hour period.

So right after lessons ended at 11am, I rushed over to the venue, right outside foodcourt 5, only to find…

Half-Rejuvinated

April 17, 2009

After a really long period of unofficial sick leave, I’m finally sorta back. Still feeling half-dead from that damn cold/fever/food poisoning. Don’t ask how. I still feel tired and such, but I’ll make it.

A Certain Summin’..

April 9, 2009

Yea, I forgot to mention this during my previous blog. The reason I haven’t been updating this blog is due to camp.

Yes, a 4 days camp.

I was kinda in a rush, and forgot to update this or remind my friend to help me update this.

I just came back, so gimme a short rest time, kay?

More frustrating than Danmaku!?

April 4, 2009

Yes. Recently, I’ve played a game that made me wanna rip out hair from my scalp. No, wait. Scratch that. Not that frustrating. But frustrating enough for me to start being pissed at a game.

And the only game that would make that happen, would be Danmaku-filled games.

But this game ain’t filled with Danmaku. It doesn’t even have a bit of Danmaku in it.

It’s a game called Demon’s Soul for the PS3.

About a week ago, I was walking with a friend of mine, and he told me about how insanely hard it was. So hard, he was stuck at level 1, stage 2. When I had first heard of it, I didn’t believe it for a moment. Him? Stuck at such an early level?

A few days ago, he invited me over to play that ‘insane-game’. “Couldn’t be too hard now, could it?” I thought.

I was horrendously wrong.

At the start of the game, you had to chose a name, gender, and class of your character. There are 10 different classes in there, all with their own pros and cons. I went along with a thief.

So after an hour of battling, here’s a summary of why it’s hard.

This game teaches you the lesson of encountering a game over. Once you die in this game, you enter a ‘soul form’, with your maximum Health halved. To return back to your body, you’re forced to slay a demon. However, here’s the problem. Nearly every enemy in this game can, and will, make you see that ‘You are Dead’ or ‘Game Over’ screen. Even a simple 2-on-1 fight with regular guards could exhaust all of your healing items. The worst thing, however, is when you DO die.

You lose all of your souls you’ve collected(they’re used as money in this game.), you restart at the beginning of the entire chapter, whatever equipments you’ve used counts (e.g: bombs/arrows). And the worst thing? All the enemies respawn.

Yup.

But overall, it’s a pretty fun and awesome game. Sure, the death system will make you flip once in awhile, but the battles and evasion events are pretty exhilarating.

At least I don’t die every few seconds, like in I Wanna Be The Guy. Now, THAT game was a real killer.

April fools? Nah.

April 2, 2009

Yesterday was April Fools, and I kinda forgot to update this blog yesterday. Sorry ’bout that.

I’m not really into this April Fools kind of thing. Sure, it’s fun to start a minor prank and watch the show. I don’t mind any of that. Making a little lie, a small practical joke here and there, no problem. A good laugh is required now and then, right?

Then, some up it to another notch. Make something a little implausible happen. I’ll give an example. A year ago, a saw this trailer on youtube about the classic game, Legend of Zelda, being turned into a movie.

And there was also this Pacman movie trailer as well.

People got a few good laughs out of these ‘movie trailers’ and jokes on what if they were real.

However, another notch up is where I draw the line. It’s when the highly plausible happens. When it’s within the grasp of others. Such as a certain fan-made game.

See, last year, I saw a trailer of a doujin game based on Touhou. It was made to be sort of a crossover between Disgaea combat system and Touhou characters. The character graphics wasn’t the best, but the gameplay itself looked very attractive and appealing.

And it was all just an April Fool’s joke.

These people make half a game engine with awesomeness like this. And thought it’d be a great idea to use this as a joke.

I had my hopes high, and it was burst with a few words.

I’m not saying that I hate April Fools or anything, but I would seriously hope that these 3rd stages jokes really do come true in some way.

Battle (Forge) On!

March 31, 2009

Just recently, my brother pestered me to download a new game, Battle Forge. Apparently I’m downloading the demo version, since I need to pay for the full version. My brother just told me to: Take it as a chance to try it out.

And since I really had nothin’ much to do, might as well go with his idea.

So I created an account, logged in, and got jumped straight into a tutorial.

Sorry about constantly forgetting to take screenshots. The gameplay is somewhat like a Warcraft/Starcraft game. Build a settlement, create troops, and hack away at your opponents. Thing is, the gameplay revolves around cards. Cards are used to summon troops, cast spells, create buildings, etc. It works somewhat like Magic: The Gathering, or Duel Masters, in which Mana is needed to use cards. In all, there are 4 elements to be utilized. Fire, Frost, Nature and Darkness. I picked Frost, since I played a water deck in Duel Masters before. :3

Graphics-wise, it isn’t too bad at all. You can say it’s like a better version of Warcraft. In fact, I have a weird suspicion that Blizzard may have been involved in making this game.

Hmm….

So it was the day I was awaiting. Kuwabara, or known as Black Rose.

It took place last Sunday at Liang Court. It was supposed to be about revival; about bringing back past cosplays.

It was not what I had really expected.

The Recent Week

March 27, 2009

Yep. It’s time to look away from my otaku life for a few moments and look at the recent past week.

Last Sunday, I was working with a friend at Toa Payoh for a part time job for the SSO, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. (more…)
